Haymarket bicycle storage facility

Level 1, Building 5A (CM05A.01)

The University of Technology has recently constructed a brand new bike storage facility at the lower level of its City Markets Building adjacent to Darling Drive. This will be the first of a number of secure bike storage facilities which the University intends to provide for its staff and students over the coming years. This facility will house a secure bike storage space for up to 20 bikes with fully serviced men’s and women’s change rooms offering showers, lockers and toilet facilities.

To ensure that the bike storage and change room facilities are managed in an orderly manner a number of conditions relating to their use have been proposed by the University.

Access to secure bike storage area

Access to the bike storage area will be via pin code access only. Students and staff wishing to use this bike storage area will firstly need to fill out a simple application form at the University security Office. Upon receipt of this application the security office will issue a pin number to allow access to the facility. The security office is located on level 04 of Building 01.

The bike storage area will operate on a first in first serve basis.

Securing of bikes to racks

Two types of storage racks will be provided within the designated bike area. The first is a traditional hitch rail which requires the bikes to be stored side by side with the front and rear wheels clamped to the rail. The second is a wall mounted rack where the bike is mounted vertically and clamped through the front and rear wheels also.

UTS will not provide any chains or devices for securing individual bikes to the racks provided. This will be the responsibility of each bike rider.

Change room facilities

Each of the change rooms will be provided with two showers, a toilet and a number of secure lockers. The change rooms can be used by staff and students at any time during normal operating hours.

Use of lockers

Any member of staff or a student can apply to have access to one of the lockers. Lockers will be allocated on a first in first service basis, similar to the operation of the bike storage racks.

Conditions relating to the use of the lockers will be as follows:

  • Lockers located within the change rooms will only be allocated to persons who ride to UTS on a regular basis. They are not intended to act as a general storage area for transient use
  • Lockers can be reserved through the security Office. This can be done in person by visiting the security Office located on Level 04 of Building 01. It is advisable to reserve a locker at the same time that you apply for pin access to the facility. You will need to lodge your UTS email address at the same time so that you can be notified of renewal dates
  • If a spare locker is available you will be issued with a special UTS padlock that must be used to secure the locker. The use of personal padlocks to secure the lockers is not permitted. Personal pad locks, if discovered, will be removed by UTS security together with the contents of the locker
  • Locker allocations will remain valid for the duration of a semester, following which the locker placement will need to be renewed. Failure to renew the placement will result in the padlock being removed together with the contents of the locker. Renewals can be made at the Security office noted above in the last week of the preceding semester. An email reminding you to renew the locker will be generated by the security office prior to the end of semester
  • If you do not wish to renew your locker placement or no longer ride to UTS the padlock can be returned to the security office. Lost keys or lost padlocks may result in a fine equal to the replacement cost of the keys or locker.

Please note that by applying to use a locker in this location you accept all terms and conditions set out by the UTS in terms of their use, and to comply with any instructions issued in this regard.

Responsibility for theft or damage

UTS will not accept responsibility for theft or damage to personal property stored within the designated bike storage area or change rooms. UTS has put in place reasonable measures to minimize the incidence of theft or damage but can not accept responsibility for these events should they take place.
