Emergency Procedures
The aim of emergency procedures is to ensure the safety of people. These procedures are building based and are developed, implemented and tested to comply with Australian Standard AS3745. They are developed to suit the building layout & emergency systems fitted and any specific building risks. The procedures are developed in consultation with building stakeholders. The procedures are considered ended when the Emergency Services (eg Fire Brigade etc) take charge from the Chief Warden or occupants are in a safe location.
Emergency evacuation procedures detail the response actions required of building occupants to safely clear a building which has been determined to be unsafe. In a fire emergency, this process is initiated by the building emergency fire control system. When a building alarm system activates please follow the procedures.
Refer to Emergency evacuation Procedure wall posters for quick reference and to identify the building specific evacuation Assembly Area.
Volunteer Emergency Wardens have been trained and tested to expedite safe building evacuations.
First Aid Officer & Emergency Warden posters identify the local response personnel. Please follow their instructions during emergencies.
Emergency Plans
Specific threats or risks create the need for specialised emergency plans e.g. Kuring-gai Campus Bushfire Plan.
Another such plan is the Emergency Response Plan, which details the establishment of an Emergency Management Team. This team has representation from a range of functional areas within UTS. The team’s task is to coordinate the operational recovery following an emergency where people have been injured and/or assets have been damaged.
These plans generally allocate tasks to facilitate a prompt and effective recovery to minimise the effects on people and disruption to the University. |
