About the project

This project relocated the Computer Laboratories from Building 6, Level 6 and merged them with existing computing facilities on Level 3, Building 6. This consolidation has led to a complete overhaul of the area, with approximately 210 new computers.

The space provides six general teaching computer labs, including a postgraduate lab, a quiet study area, and study breakout areas for students to continue working after the completion of lectures and tutorials.

Key features

  • The project promotes the Master Plan’s vision of a “Sticky Campus” where staff and students can share resources, and collaborate in an open-plan space
  • Temporary labs located on Level 4 at the beginning of Semester 1, 2010 ensured the Level 3 area was available for construction
  • Wireless access in the open-learning space/breakout areas to encourage students to continue class work on their laptops
  • Accessible areas and height-adjustable desks to cater for those with special needs, particularly those in wheelchairs
  • New furnishings, freshly painted walls, new carpet, and extensive technical infrastructure
  • The Digital Imaging Centre was reinstated in the facility
  • Extensive use of glass walls enables transparency throughout the space. A graphic film “glazing” provides visual separation between areas
